Local Fallen Soldier - Sgt. Jason L. Merrill

A roadside bomb killed Sgt. Jason Merrill three weeks after he arrived for his second tour of duty in Iraq. He had served a year in Iraq in 2004 to 2005 as a tank gunner. He was riding in a Humvee when he was killed, said Tim Merrill, his father.

Sgt. Merrill, along with his 3 brothers and sisters, went to elementary school where my 9 year old goes in Mesa, AZ. When he would return home from his tour of duty, he would go the elementary school and give presentations and show photographs from the war in Iraq. Jason's mother is a teacher's aide at the school.

This past Monday, the school held an assembly before school to honor Sgt Merrill.

It wounds my heart that this Warrior is dead and Kerry, Kennedy, Murtha, et. al. are still freakin' functional!!!

Yes, God Bless his family and all of his kin. Their sacrifice is noted.

Wars are fought by young men and women with so much promise while "old farts" start the wars, send them into battle and then fail to give them support while waxing political.

It's a "Human Condition" from the dawn of time.

:(
