A Little Tequila Info.....To Sip On

(click photo to enlarge)

....you see that butte on the right side of this photo? It is called "El Chiquihuitillo" (pronounced chi-kee-whi-TEE-yoh), it is about a 5-10 minute walk from the town of Tequila in Jalisco, México. This butte is where the Tiquila Indians fought off the Spanish Conquistadores during the Inquisition.....and won!

I have climbed Chiquihuitillo, very beautiful place, there were even some pottery left over from their time there, of course we left everything intact (wasn't a whole lot). In the background you can see the Sierra Madre's. Jalisco is beautiful! I climbed Chiquihuitillo with "El Negro", he is mi suegro (father-in-law) he and his family live in Tequila.....wife too, back when she wasn't the "Mrs."

Negro is 62 years old, built like a rock and is in better shape than 95% of guys half his age. He is called Negro because he is just a bit darker than your average Mexican (not much though). Negro, his brother-in-law- José Luis and Javier (he owns the local bar "La Capilla"...translation - Little Church, how appropriate!), well they all made the pilgrimage to pray to the Virgen de Guadalupe in México City....by foot! It is only about 400 miles away!

If you ever goe down there, let me know, I'll give you a list of people to meet and places to see! Below is Negro with Gringo Junior, my son Juul (nothing like a Swedish Norwegian Mexican), out for a hike last August. The open area/field just above their heads is one of many of Sauza Tequila's blue agave fields.

Adíos......JG

Click photo to enlarge....look closely..you can see Chiquihuitillo in the background near the top middle of photo.

....and with Daddy's little gringa, Daniella, sorting through avocado's they just picked from their tree (look at the size of those bad boys).

Wow, I ahd no idea that place looked like that, beautiful!

Try calling a Mexican or any Hispanic "Negro" here in the states and see where that gets you! :-)
