China Surpasses the USA in High-Tech Exports

  • China Economic Review reports
  • that China has surpassed the US in high-technology exports has triggered alarms on issues ranging from intellectual property to military might – and the yuan, of course.

    oops..bad link, try this http://www.chinaeconomicreview.com/subscriber/articledetail.php?id=913

Was involved in a conversation with a gentleman from the law firm
  • Squires, Sanders & Dempsey
  • , he thinks China will somewhat implode in 6-7 years, too much growth too quick, very little regulation in all industries and the people in the rural areas have been and are rioting/revolting at being forced to move, adapt and deal with dumping and toxic spilling (it's China, there's a lot of them). He's a reliable source, he's been practicing law in China for 20 years, consulting with all the big companies moving in to China for a piece of the pie.

    Excerpt:

Numbers can be deceiving, though. While high-tech exports have increased, it's not all DVD and MP3 players: the presence of budget-buy washing machines and air conditioners cannot be ignored.

"These figures also include white goods, and not only high-end electronics, "said Stephen Pong, executive director of the America-Hong Kong Electronics Association (AHKEA).

And 78% to 80% of the high-tech goods exported are only assembled in China from foreign components.

Also, most of this stuff is produced with Western capital for Western markests.
Take these two away and China does have a bit of a problem.
